About the event
The interactions between some species can be very close and vital to their individual existences. This is called Symbiosis – living together, The more this is looked at, the more significant it seems in the way the natural world works. The degree of species interaction varies enormously- indeed there is a Symbiosis Spectrum.
The Symbiosis Spectrum varies from one species being slightly dependent on another with no detriment to that species, through a mutual dependence which is called mutualism, to finally where one species, a parasite. is dependent on another (the host) to its detriment. During this enthralling evening, we will examine the whole symbiosis spectrum and see just how significant it is. Blue butterflies, in particular, are a fascinating group with some species being in very different parts of the spectrum!
David Horsley is a retired biologist and former teacher, who has lived in North Norfolk for 44 years and photographed wildlife in the British Isles as well as locations throughout the world.
