About the event

Knowing what different species of bird eat is an important part of providing the right habitats for them and understanding why populations of particular birds may be going up or down.

Ed has been studying the food of urban peregrines for 27 years and supported hundreds of students in dissecting owl pellets, the regurgitated undigested packages of their food. In his latest book, Bird Pellets, Ed provides a photographic guide to the different pellets birds produce, from eagles and owls to robins and blackbirds, and how to identify what is inside them. The book in particular helps you to identify small mammal and bird skulls.

In tonight's presentation Ed will be revealing more about the fascinating world of pellets, how you can find and dissect them yourselves, how to identify some of the common voles and mice found in barn owl pellets and showcase those birds you may least expect to produce a pellet!

For more information on Ed's work and to find out more about his published works, visit his website here.
