About the event
The various species of mice, voles and shrews in Britain can be difficult to tell apart. If you have ever wondered “is that a bank vole in my compost heap?” or “has my cat brought in a water shrew?” this is the webinar for you!
Simone will explain how to tell these small mammals from one another using simple identification tips. As well as talking about the different places where they are found, she will also provide a brief insight into their fascinating ecology.
Simone has an almost lifelong interest in small mammals. As well as her years of work studying hazel dormice, she has been involved in projects involving harvest mice and water shrews and undertaken live trapping and owl pellet studies to investigate the small mammal assemblage of various habitats. Although collectively small and secretive, their lives are very different in terms of where they live, what they eat and how they interact with each other – something that Simone finds fascinating!
