Outdoor Education and Activities Opportunity

What you’ll be doing
Engaging with local schools across Suffolk make up the majority of bookings during term time from nursery pupils to A-level students - no two days are ever the same!

Suring the school holidays we run family events, mainly during the afternoons, children’s activity days and teen courses. We also run weekly Wild Tots & Wild Babies sessions. At weekends there are children’s, family and Teen activities along with Wild Birthday Parties.

Several of our sites run larger annual events such as Plant Sales, Apple Days, Fairs and an art exhibition.

A lot of work also goes on behind the scenes in planning, researching and making resources.

The skills you need
No skills required. You don’t have to have a teaching qualification, just a passion to share your enjoyment of nature with a captive audience! Most of our engagement activities take place outside in all weathers - some good wellies are required!

What you’ll get out of it
Working as part of a friendly and engaging team will give you the chance to form new friendships and learn new skills with like-minded people. You will also gain skills, knowledge and experience within a conservation organisation.

Fresh air and exercise in the company of young children's enthusiasm for nature and the outdoors means it is hard not to have a great time! All staff and volunteers are required to regular participate in essential safeguarding training.

As a member of the outdoor learning volunteer team, you will also meet other volunteers and Trust staff and have the opportunity to learn more about the work of Suffolk Wildlife Trust across the County (and of The Wildlife Trusts nationally).

You can claim back out-of-pocket expenses.

The time you need to give
Volunteering can be as little or often as suits you. Specific hours will be needed depending on site and activity taking place, but, as a guide, to help with a school day you would need to be available from 9am to 3pm. School holiday activities are more varied.

How to Apply
We have opportunities across all of Suffolk. For more information and to arrange an informal discussion, please contact the relevant Engagement Officers below.

Our EDI Statement
Suffolk Wildlife Trust is committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone is welcome. As a conservation charity, we recognise the importance of diversity in both nature and our workforce of staff and volunteers. Safeguarding Statement
Suffolk Wildlife Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting a safe and secure environment for all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Therefore, the successful volunteers for this position will be subject to pre-volunteering checks including an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as the role will be engaged in regulated activity with children and young people. Please note, it is an offence to apply for this position if barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
