Bird Counter Volunteer Opportunity

What you will be doing

You will be given a section along either the Stour or Orwell estuary. Each count is undertaken in the morning and starts 1.5 hours before low water and continue, where necessary, until 1.5 hours beyond low water. All species present on mudflats (and waterbirds on the estuary at low tide) are to be counted, although it is down to counters preference whether or not gulls are counted.

The skills you need

You will have experience with waterbird and/or wintering surveys such as WeBS counts or similar winter low tide bird surveys. You will be able to identify waterbirds such as waders, waterfowl, rails, diver, grebes, cormorants and herons.

What you'll get out of it
The chance to be part of a network of like-minded bird counters.

You can claim back out-of-pocket expenses.

The time you need to give
We're ideally looking for a minimum of 1.5 hours each morning, Monday to Friday.

How to Apply
