Visitor Centre Volunteer at Trimley Marshes - Weekends

We are looking for a volunteer to manage the visitor centre at weekends.

What you’ll be doing:

• Meeting and greeting visitors, showing them wildlife on site, the location of hides and other facilities.

• Opening or closing the visitor centre depending on the morning or afternoon shift.

• Acting as an ambassador for the Trust when liaising with members of the public.

• Keeping the inside of the building and office clean and tidy.

• Notifying the Trimley Marshes Warden of any occurring deficiencies or need for repairs. 

• Following health and safety regulations. 

The skills you need:

• Ability to work on own initiative

• Enthusiastic and highly self-motivated

• Awareness of health and safety issues and working with the public

• Committed to the vision and values of Suffolk Wildlife Trust

• Good bird identification skills would be advantageous but ability and keenness to learn is more important.

What you’ll get out of it:

You will learn more about the management of a fantastic wetland bird reserve, and get opportunities to see the birds on site. You will also gain valuable experience volunteering with a conservation organisation, and meet Trust staff and other volunteers. Free tea, coffee and the all-important biscuits will be available to reward you for your hard work.

The time you need to give:

As little as 3 per month:

Saturdays or Sundays 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm          

Other information:

Full training, tools and protective clothing are provided as required, but please wear appropriate footwear and a packed lunch.
