What you will be doing
Suffolk Wildlife Trusts aims to have something for everyone, therefore we run a variety of engagement activities at our reserves including family activity/event days, activities for tots, teens, school holiday clubs and school visits. As an engagement volunteer your role will be varied and can involve helping the participants to complete tasks such as crafts, trails or finding invertebrate. The focus of our engagement work is to facilitate activities which help develop a feeling of connectivity to nature and a drive to take action for it.

What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is a good communicator, friendly and willing to help with our engagement activities. You should have an enthusiasm for wildlife, as this position involves speaking passionately about our reserves, the Trusts work and wildlife to visitors. The role also calls for flexibility in volunteering with people of all ages, from children and young people to adults. You will often be in a busy environment, standing for periods both indoors and outdoors in the visitor centre and on reserves. Being available during weekends and school holidays is important
The skills you need
Ideally, you will have some prior experience in a public-facing role, particularly involving children but no skills are required - just a passion to share your enjoyment of nature with a captive audience! Most of our engagement activities take place outside in all weathers - some good wellies are required!
What you'll get out of it
Working as part of a friendly and engaging team will give you the chance to form new friendships and learn new skills with like-minded people. You will also gain skills, knowledge and experience within a conservation organisation. You'll learn new skills and share your enthusiasm for wildlife, learning more about the work of the Trust along the way. Our reserves are also a beautiful place to spend time.
The time you need to give
Volunteering can be as little or often as suits you. We have a variety of times that need filling between 10am and 4:30pm depending on what you might be doing that day!
Location:
Bradfield Woods nature reserve (Stowmarket)
Lackford Lakes (Bury St Edmunds)
Knettishall Heath nature reserve (Thetford)
Ipswich (parks & green spaces)
Carlton Marshes (Lowestoft)
Foxburrow nature reserve (Woodbridge)
