National Grid have dropped a proposal to take new overhead powerlines through Hintlesham Woods Site of Special Scientific Interest from their Bramford-Twinstead network reinforcement project. The route will now pass around the woodland to the north and west, avoiding the loss of any of its irreplaceable ancient woodland habitat.
We worked with RSPB and Woodland Trust to reach out to our members and supporters to help save the woodlands. The feedback National Grid received in response to their latest consultation was one of the reasons they gave for their decision, and one of the largest remaining fragments of ancient woodland in Suffolk will now be safe for generations to come.
We also wish to thank National Grid for listening to the voices of local people and stopping the irresponsible destruction of ancient woodland in Suffolk.
