The 30th July saw our first Family Discovery event to take place at Martlesham Wilds, and it was a great opportunity to explore our new reserve and discover what creatures live there. Our enthusiastic animal detectives looked for natural treasures and signs of birds and mammals, using tracks and poo to help identification! They were also very excited to discover a tiny toad and a wasp spider.
Summer family fun at Martlesham Wilds!
On the 10th July for our second event, Charlie lead families on a longer walk through the reserve on a warm and sunny day. Charlie says "We went exploring with a map, compass & binoculars. It was hot but we had a great time! We even saw black-tailed godwit, a sandpiper, an egret and lots of black headed gulls. Then (as exploring makes you hungry), on the way back we picked some blackberries - they were a bit sour!".
We have some more fantastic family events coming up at Martlesham Wilds soon which Charlie is very excited for...
She says "We have been animal detectives, we have been explorers and coming up we have our Family Discovery afternoon on Thurs 17th 2-4pm, where we will be doing fun activities to learn about the nature reserve. We then have our ‘What makes a nature reserve’ family morning on Wed 23rd August, where will take a different route and look at as many different habitats as we can find and think about who may live there."
