John Pawsey at Shimpling Park Farm has farmed organically since 1999 following concerns about the health of the soils on his farm and declining biodiversity. John has worked with Suffolk Wildlife Trust to record the wildlife on his farm. Surveys have shown the benefits of his organic regime and the space and habitats John makes for various farmland wildlife species. Farmland birds, including yellowhammer, are more numerous here than in comparable conventional systems and the same trend is seen with pollinating insects including butterflies and wild bee species. In this short video, John talks about some of the farming methods he uses to farm without chemicals and the benefits these techniques can have for wildlife.
