About the event

The habitat is a mixture of saltmarsh, mudflats, grazing marsh, lake, freshwater scrapes, scrub, and woodland. We would hope to see a variety of butterflies and dragonflies visible in good weather. Otter and water vole too if we’re lucky! We should also see lovely summer flowers along the banks of the Orwell. The walk is timed to start just ahead of a rising tide so we should see plenty of birds. This coastline should be great for waders in summer. We will hopefully see waders with their young, possibly some early autumnal migrants. Other birds will include a variety of warblers, grebes, ducks, skylark, and linnet breed in good numbers, and we may have cattle egret if the cows are back. We have arranged for the Trimley Marshes warden and assistant volunteer warden to be on hand for advice.

We have set an earlier start time that usual for this event because we hope to meet up with a bird ringing team (weather permitting) who start very early in the morning! We should be able to just observe them in action, but we will not be able to get too close to the birds.

At the meeting point a few of our members will use their own private cars to offer lifts to Trimley Marshes Visitor Centre which is our ultimate destination. Without this arrangement there would be a 45min (2 mile) walk to the Visitor Centre, both there and back.

Please bring walking boots or stout shoes and binoculars if you have them. There is no shade along most of the route so sunscreen, bringing your own water and a snack are also recommended

Places are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.
Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves the right to cancel an event and in these circumstances, will fully refund fees.
