Since the last time we caught up I’ve been very busy gaining more experience and confidence with a variety of groups in Ipswich. I’ve now been running Wild Tots in Ipswich since Easter and have loved every minute! We’ve made magic wands, binoculars to help search for our woodland friends, mini rafts to explore the concepts of sinking and floating, natural Jubilee crowns, plus much more! I was sad to say goodbye, but we celebrated in style with some super yummy cupcakes, which one of our wonderful mums brought along. How sweet…literally!
Jubilee nature crowns, the ‘Go Wild at the Woolpack’ Pub Quiz and my first Weekend Wildlife Club session at Foxburrow
The Bridge School is an SEN group which Lucy has been working with regularly since April. Every so often I have been lucky enough to join her! I have really enjoyed these sessions and meeting the students. For our most recent session, I was able to lead it, which felt so rewarding when they seemed to have a lovely time and really engage with the surroundings in their wooded area. We made Hapizome flags in this session and I was very impressed with their tool skills. As much as I’m going to miss visiting The Bridge School, I have loved seeing their smiley faces and am so grateful for this experience.
One of my favourite memories from the past month must be the ‘Go Wild at the Woolpack’ Pub Quiz, which Lucy and I hosted. Raising an incredible £452 for Suffolk Wildlife Trust, with all 3 rooms full of participants and us with no microphone… but it certainly all paid off. It was a wonderful evening of wildlife quizzing, raffles, and laughs. But with all that said, the highlight of the night had to have been Lucy’s adorable bluebell hat!
More great memories from my time in Ipswich include…
- Year 3s from Sidegate Lane Primary School – mammal footprint tunnels in Christchurch Park
- Nettle damper bread and pancakes with Weekend Wildlife Club and Young Wardens
- Christian youth ministries – creating Hapa-zome headbands
- Rose Hill Playgroup – camouflage caterpillars and Invertebrate hunting on their grounds
- The Suffolk Show – pond dipping galore!
I have already had a brilliant couple of weeks at Foxburrow. The groups are much bigger which has been daunting, but it just means lots more excited children to inspire about wildlife! My first day at Foxburrow included the first Weekend Wildlife Club at this location. I have been very excited to set up my own regular group; last month’s session was all about hedgehogs, to celebrate National Hedgehog Week. Head to our events page to get involved with this months session and upcoming activities!
