Bullfinches have been showing well, lots of snipe are on the slough and plenty of ducks on the sailing lake.

We have now seen 64 different species of birds on the reserve in 2020 including bullfinch, snipe, siskin, lapwing, goldeneye and good numbers of starlings roosting at the end of a winter’s day.…

Traditionally for the ninth day of Christmas we would be receiving nine ladies dancing but instead we’ve changed it to nine Muntjac prancing instead.

Traditionally for the eighth day of Christmas we would be receiving eight maids a -milking but instead we’ve changed it to eight wasps a -silking instead.

Traditionally on the seventh day of Christmas, we would be receiving seven swans a swimming from our one true love, but we’re going to talk about seven scorpions a swimming instead!

Traditionally on the sixth day of Christmas, we would be receiving six geese a laying from our one true love but we’ve decided to talk about six earwigs a laying instead!

As promised in my last blog update, I will update you on the starling situation on the reserve.

Traditionally for the fifth day of Christmas we would be receiving five purple rings birds but instead we are going with five purple lings!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year... because mistletoe can be easily spotted in beautiful bunches on bare branches in the trees!
