An artists residency at Foxburrow Nature reserve by Nicola Coe.
Foxburrow is a hidden gem. It is one of those unique nature reserves which mirrors the wildlife which we see and find most often in our gardens, and walks within wood and farmland near home. Except, here it is abundant, and as it should be. Pockets of habitat exist, which are so full of life you can feel yourself being transported into a state of calm with nature. Buildings, fields, a garden, woodland, an old orchard or two and some friendly sheep, offer various habitats to explore on a manageable scale. The wildlife here is flourishing, flowers and insects thrive, and bird song fills the air in every corner.
The present and future rewilding of the surrounding fields of Foxburrow nature reserve is exciting and presents so many opportunities as an artist. I am looking forward to immersing myself creatively with the wildlife that will begin to move in over the next year or so and to document these happenings in a creative way for all to share and enjoy. As an artist I work with and for nature. Using a combination of natural and waste materials to create both sculptural pieces and works on paper. I work with the seasons in particular, and hope very much to be able to interact with visitors to the reserve regularly over these important changing times within the natural calendar. Introducing visitors to the beauty of the natural world which lives and thrives within Foxburrow throughout every month of the year.
